Wendouree West Community Skills Survey
Community Renewal in Wendouree West is an initiative under the Victorian Government’s Neighbourhood Renewal strategy. The objectives of the strategy are to:
- Increase people’s pride and participation in the community.
- Lift employment, training and education opportunities and expand local economies.
- Improve personal safety and reduce crime.
- Enhance housing and the physical environment.
- Promote health and wellbeing.
- Increase access to transport and other key services and improve government responsiveness.
The Wendouree West Community Skills Survey was first conducted during November 2003 to:
- Enhance the effectiveness of the Wendouree West Community Renewal Project.
- Help assist residents in accessing employment and learning opportunities.
- Increase local economic and social activity.
The skills survey information provides opportunities for making better use of existing resources and also identifies new resources that can be used to build on the strengths that already exist in Wendouree West. The challenge now is to maximise the opportunities presented through this new information source; to demonstrate the value of resident participation; and to increase community involvement beyond the levels achieved through the initial survey.
CECC is continuing to work with residents and with members of the Wendouree West Renewal Team to maximise the benefits of this project with plans for the 2004 community skills survey progressing well.
