Moorabool communities to go online
The Moorabool Shire Council has recently appointed CECC to undertake the Website Facilitator component of the Communities and Technologies Project. This project aims to support six communities in establishing local township websites within the Moorabool Online Community (www.mconline.com.au). The township websites will be similar to the website developed by the Mt Egerton community (www.mtegerton.com). The CAT project is supported by the Macpherson Smith Community Alliance an initiative between the State Government and Helen Macpherson Smith Trust. Project implementation commenced on 20 April 2005 and will conclude on 30 November 2005. Below is a recent media article announcing the project.
A project to develop websites for six Moorabool Shire communities has been launched.
The Communities and Technologies Project, funded by the Machperson Smith Community Alliance, will encourage community groups, businesses and residents to communicate and share information about their communities. Mayor Peter Russell said a community facilitator had been appointed and would be visiting rural communities during the next couple of months.
‘It is an excellent opportunity for small rural townships to promote their towns, network with other residents and also be made aware of what services are available to them, encouraging their community to shop locally’ Cr Russell said.
He encouraged community members to become involved in the project.
Community facilitator Sarah Springfield said Mt Egerton had established a successful website as part of a similar program.
‘It has provided a new means of informing the community of news, events and other activities in the township’ she said.
Ms Springfield said the initial stage of the project would involve establishing township working groups.
